A westerly wave is set to enter Pakistan on May 22 with possible impact on the western and upper parts of the country over the next week, the Met Office said in a statement on Sunday.

Pakistan’s upper areas including GB, Kashmir, Islamabad, Murree and Peshawar could receive heavy winds and thunderstorms leading to hail from May 22 to May 26. The weather spell can include heavy falls but these are likely to be isolated.

Areas in central and southern Punjab are also expected to receive strong winds and thunderstorms from May 23 onwards, including sporadic hailstorms. The areas impacted will include Multan, Mianwali, Khushab and Sukkur in the south as well as Lahore, Sialkot and Kasur.

Balochistan and Sindh are also expected to dust and thunderstorms along with rain from May 22 but this spell is expected to be brief compared to other areas and will likely end by May 24. Quetta, Zhob, Chamman, Sibbi, Turbat and other areas in Balochistan coudl receive rain while Sukkur, Dadu Jacobabad and Larkana could be impacted in Sindh.

The met office statement said that the ongoing spell of heat cold subside as the news system of winds makes its impact felt across the country but farmers and tourists have been advised to stay cautious.
