PTA cracks down on illegal ISPs in Lahore and Rawalpindi
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority carried out raids in Lahore and Rawalpindi against illegal internet providers.
In Lahore, the raids were made at two different locations where equipment running two Internet Service Providers was confiscated.
In Rawalpindi, authorities found an internet provider working despite their license having expred. THe ISP’s services have now been blocked.
The rais were made in conjunction with the Federal Investigation Authority. A statement said that the raids had been made for tax theft and misreporting revenue.
The internet in Pakistan often works under strict regulation. Internet services were blocked for multiple days earlier this month as protests broke out acoss Pakistan after Imran Khan’s arrest. Multiple social media platforms were also blocked.
