The postmortem report of Noor Jehan, the elephant in Karachi Zoo who passed away last month, revealed that she died from blood parasite disease.

The report which is obtained by Aaj News read that Noor Jehan was also suffering from hematoma and other diseases.

“Blood parasites are caused by the bite of a particular type of fly,” the report added.

Noor Jahan suffered leg pain in January 2023, said. Dr Saif ur Rehman, Administrator Karachi. Her health worsened in March and Noor Jehan eventually passed away on April 22 on the day of Eid.

Noor Jahan’s post-mortem was done scientifically which revealed that Noor Jehan had parasitic disease.

An ECU was built for Noor Jahan in Zoo, which was supported by NGOs. Madhubala and Sonia were also screened.

Moreover, he said that Madhubala is undergoing training every day.

Speaking about moving Madhubala to the Safari Park, he said that sourcing a container that will be used to transport her there will be a big task.

“Transporting such a heavy animal is not easy. A task force has also been formed in this regard,” he concluded.

The post-mortem was conducted under the supervision of Dr Amir Khalil, the head of the Four Paws team. Samples of the elephant’s organs were sent to the Lahore laboratory for testing.

Noor Jehan was one of four African elephants brought to Karachi from Tanzania in 2009. While Madhubala kept Noor Jehan company at the Zoo, Malka and Sono live at the Safari Park where Madhubala will now be shifted.

The autopsy was performed later in the day. Noor Jehan was buried inside Karachi Zoo, the authorities said.

Doctors believe that there is no threat to Madhubala. Moreover, authorities also reviewed the arrangements being made to shift Madhubala to Safari Park.

The 17-year-old African elephant underwent emergency treatment for a tumour that had crippled her back legs, but while in recovery she became trapped in her enclosure’s pool.

Zookeepers eventually managed to lift her out of the pool, but for the next nine days, she was unable to stand.

She eventually passed away as doctors tried to find a cure for her pain, with reiki experts also trying their hand.
