This Pakistan squad can win World Cup: Arthur
It is still not clear whether Pakistan would travel to India or not for the ICC Cricket World Cup, however, the newly appointed team director Mickey Arthur believes that this young squad led by Babar Azam has the ability to clinch the show peace event.
The statement from Arthur comes at a time when PCB’s management committee chairman Najam Sethi has hinted at boycotting the mega event scheduled to be played in India later this year.
Despite that, Arthur wants to keep his side ready for the 50-over tournament as he chalked down a plan with the Pakistan Cricket Board for the team’s preparations.
“I firmly believe that the talent we have at our disposal, this is the team that can really win the World Cup,” Arthur told Geo News. “I think the talent Pakistan has is fantastic. I’m really excited to see how far they can go and excited to play my role in their development.”
“We put a whole schedule in terms of camps and have identified areas that we think that we need to work on,” Arthur said.
He highlighted that during these camps the team would work particularly on playing spin in the middle overs. “We are having a look at our finishers, guys who can come in and finish or hit the ball out of the ground.”
It is worth mentioning here that Sethi while speaking to Reuters warned India of caciques of shifting the Asia Cup to a neutral venue.
“They want all the matches in a neutral venue,” he said. “BCCI should take a good, rational decision so that we don’t have any problems going forward. India should not be looking at a situation where we end up boycotting the Asia Cup and also the World Cup, and then India ends up boycotting the Champions Trophy. That will be a huge mess.”
