Omer Sarfraz Cheema arrested from Lahore
Senior PTI lawmaker and former Punjab governor Omer Sarfraz Cheema has been arrested from his Lahore residence in the early hours of Wednesday.
The former governor was taken into custody by an anti-corruption unit of the Punjab government. Cheema is accused of exceeding his powers.
Anti-corruption authorities have summoned Cheema several times, but he didn’t appear, sources said.
Meanwhile, Cheema’s family said that PTI leader was arrested by ‘unknown’ men, who came in plain clothes. They did not inform on which charges they took Cheema into custody.
Earlier, protests have erupted across Pakistan following Imran Khan’s arrest from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) where he was present for biometric verification in two cases.
Moreover, PTI leader Ali Zaidi was arrested after he asked supporters to gather at Shahrah-e-Faisal to protest the arrest of Imran Khan. The party has asked traders and transporters to participate in the strike.
A police vehicle was set on fire by protestors while police resorted to tear gas to scatter the protestors.
