Imran announces public rallies from May 14
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan announced on Saturday that he would hold rallies across the country from May 14 to call for elections in the country.
Addressing his supporters from inside his vehicle, Imran Khan said that the ‘NRO government’ imposed on the country was driving the economy towards default.
“We are about to come out onto the streets and will not rest until elections are held,” Imran said.
He said that the government had told the court about lack of funds and security for elections, but the real purpose was delaying elections.
He said that the PDM government was a ‘gift’ from former army chief General Bajwa and it would end up sinking the country. He added that not even an enemy could have done what Bajwa has done.
The rally
Imran Khan led the rally that set off from Zaman Park in Lahore to show support for Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial. Similar rallies are being held in other cities as well, including Lahore and Peshawar.**
The district administration in Lahore granted PTI permission to hold the rallies in the provincial capital on Saturday.
After taking oath from PTI, the district administration gave permission for the rally, the notification of which was issued by Deputy Commissioner Lahore.
The rally will be allowed from 2 pm to 7:30 pm, the Deputy Commission said in the permit.
The administration and police will cooperate with the Imran Khan-led party and also be responsible for security.
The notification also prohibits speeches against the judiciary and institutions and also barred the participants from damaging public property during the rally.
The rally is aimed at expressing solidarity with the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial.
It will begin from Zaman Park, the residence of the former prime minister, and would conclude at Laxmi Chowk.
The PTI Chairman had announced holding rallies in four cities – Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar on May 6.
He made the announcement before appearing in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on May 4.
Imran Khan had requested the nation to come out for an hour in their localities and villages at 5:30 pm to express solidarity with the Chief Justice.
