At least 175 members of the National Assembly turned up at the luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday amid reports that the premier may seek a vote of confidence from the House.

MQM-P, which has been protesting the alleged undercount of the Karachi population in the national census, has also vowed to support the confidence vote, according to its convenor, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi, who attended the event.

Speaking at the luncheon, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ruled out the possibility of any ‘compromise’ on the supremacy of the Parliament.

The prime minister went to each MNA one by one, exchanged pleasantries, and also congratulated all the members of Parliament on Eid.

The 20 defected members of PTI also participated in the luncheon.

The luncheon was given in the Speaker’s Lounge at Parliament House while separate meals were arranged for federal ministers and cabinet members.

At least 6 dishes were offered in the luncheon.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif elaborate on the overall situation of the country before the members of the assembly.

He took a blunt stand and said that no matter what comes there will be no compromise on the supremacy of the parliament and that the elections across the country will be held on the same day, sources told Aaj News.

Shehbaz Sharif further said that the Parliament is supreme and its decision should be accepted, by everyone. The government will ensure the implementation of the decisions of the Parliament on every issue, he said.
