With the new spell of rain in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the River Swat swelled on Tuesday and water flooded the Bahrain Bazar in the valley. The road link between Bahrain and Kalam was also severed when water flowed over the bridge.

The authorities have evacuated the buildings near the river in Bahrain and troops from the Pakistan Army are aiding the rescue efforts.

The Bahrain Bazar, which has historically drawn tourists to the region, was completely destroyed last year when massive floods hit the country.

People started to rebuild after several months and some of the buildings are still being constructed.

On Tuesday, water flowed through the streets with under-construction shops and markets lined on both sides.

People relived the horrors of the previous year.

The overflowing river also submerged the Bahrain Bridge near Daral Khor disrupting road traffic.

The land link between Bahrain and Kalam was severed and thousands of people were stranded on both sides.

Bahrain Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Ishaq said the local administration was trying to restore the road link by installing a steel bridge.

The link will be restored before Eid, he said.
