Top-order batter Fakhar Zaman has heaped praise on young Saim Ayub, who announced himself in world cricket with a classy 47 against New Zealand.

The young left-hander was in full control of the proceedings during the first T20I of the five-match series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

He arrived at the crease, when Pakistan lost both openers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, with just 30 runs on the scoreboard.

Fakhar and Saim made a crucial 79-run stand which came off just 43 deliveries to bring Pakistan back into the game.

The senior batter described the rookie as a wonderful inclusion into the batting line-up.

“He [Saim] is a wonderful addition to the batting line-up,” Fakhar told Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the game. “His range of shots is really good. After Babar, Pakistan have got such a player.

“You can’t judge a player so early, but I feel that if he continues to work hard and take care of himself, then he would serve Pakistan for a long time and will win a lot of matches for Pakistan,” Fakhar concluded.

Saim went back to the hut after scoring 47 off just 28 deliveries. He struck four boundaries and two maximums.

The two teams will again meet at the same venue on April 15.

Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, also expressed his appreciation for the 20-year-old talented batsman from Karachi.

“Saim and Fakhar rebuilt the innings and didn’t let us feel under pressure. However much we praise and appreciate Saim Ayub isn’t enough. He’s improving day by day, avails his opportunities, and dominates. I wish him the best for the future,” Babar said.

Pakistan cricket fans will be hoping that Saim can continue to impress and develop into a top-level player, just like Babar has done over the years.
