Four firefighters dead as two factories collapse in Karachi

Four firefighters have lost their lives while 13 others were injured after two factories damaged by blaze collapsed in Karachi on Thursday.

The firefighters and rescue teams were working to extinguish the fire and cool the factory when the building suddenly collapsed, rescue officials told Aaj News.

The collapse resulted in several firefighters and people being buried under the rubble.

The bodies of all four firefighters were retrieved from the rubble. They were identified as Sohail, Khalid Shahzad, Mohsin, and Adnan.

Meanwhile, the injured included 11 firefighters and two other people. They were taken to hospital.

The blaze erupted in the garments and spare part factories on Wednesday, which are located in New Karachi’s industrial area.

Fire brigade officials said that they had ended the firefighting operations after successfully extinguishing the fire. However, it broke out again, and due to the continuous heat, the buildings of the factories were weakened.

Governor takes notice of firefighter deaths

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has taken the notice of the deaths of firefighters who lost their lives in factories fire.

Terming it a “big tragedy”, Governor Sindh said that four people were martyred. “It is our duty to take care of the families of the four people. Such incidents need to be stopped.”

He visited the site and reviewed the relief work.
