Khawaja Farooq appointed as caretaker Prime Minister of AJK
Khawaja Farooq Ahmad has been appointed as the caretaker Prime Minister of AJK, Aaj News reported Wednesday.
His appointment came after a full bench of the AJK high court disqualified Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas for contempt of court.
Till the election of the new prime minister, Ahmad will hold office.
Moreover, a summary of his appointment was sent by President Azad Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood to the Chief Secretary, who approved his appointment and also issued the notification.
Earlier, Tanveer Ilyas was accused of insulting the judges of the court and had in fact apologised just hours before the verdict on Tuesday, accepting that he had made the remarks. His apology was not accepted.
He was later summoned to the AJK Supreme Court. He can appeal the high court’s decision in the Supreme Court.
Tanveer Ilyas is a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He had said in a speech that a development project for which aid had been sent by Saudi Arabia was being held up because the court had issued a stay order.
