Karachi Zoo director changed after elephant fiasco
Kunwar Ayub has been appointed the new director of Karachi Zoo after the previous director Khalid Hashmi was fired for negligence.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori issued these orders which were implemented Tuesday. Kunwar Ayub has asked for the zoo records and all staff to report to him.
Administrator Karachi Dr Saif-ur-Rehman visited the zoo on Tuesday to meet the ailing elephant, Noor Jehan.
He said that the zoo keepers are following the doctor’s instructions to treat her, adding that the elephant will be shifted to Safari Park once her health improves.
“We will also bring in new animals and the ones who aren’t in pairs will be provided with companions.”
The swelling in Noor Jehan’s hind legs has started going down after treatment from the Four Paws team. She is being given physiotherapy, massage therapy and medicines to help her recover fully.
Three mounds of Bhalu sand have been placed in Noor Jehan’s enclosure to help provide more comfort.
