AJK PM Sardar Tanveer Ilyas sacked by court for contempt
MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Kashmir’s Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas has been removed by a full bench of the AJK high court, it emerged on Tuesday.
He was accused of insulting the judges of the court and had in fact apologised just hours before the verdict on Tuesday, accepting that he had made the remarks. His apology was not accepted.
He was later summoned to the AJK Supreme Court. He can appeal the high court’s decision in the Supreme Court.
Tanveer Ilyas is a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He had said in a speech that a development project for which aid had been sent by Saudi Arabia was being held up because the court had issued a stay order.
Tanveer Ilyas was in the news recently when Islamabad Police sealed the Centaurus Mall that he ownns citing violation of building protocols. However, Ilyas had alleged that the action was part of political victimisation because he belonged to Imran Khan’s party.
He is expected to challenge the disqualification in the Supreme Court.
