The Election Commission of Pakistan has called a meeting to discuss how to proceed in light of the Supreme Court verdict that ordered elections on May 14.

The meeting will be held in Islamabad on Wednesday around 11am.

The court struck down ECP’s order delaying elections from April 30 to October 8 on Tuesday. It said that the commission should set polls for May 14 and directed the federal government to provide all possible support for the elections.

It also told the government to give the required fund to the commission by April 10 and asked the ECP to submit a report that the funds had been released.

The ECP had said that the elections had to be delayed because it had been told that funds cannot be spared due to the country’s economic conditions.

It had also said that the government had refused to provide security personnel due to prevailing security conditions in the country.

With the government taking up a defiant posture, and secretaries of finance andinterior telling the court the same thing that they told the ECP, the commission will now have to decide how to implement the court’s orders.
