Former pacer Mohammad Amir has finally got the green signal for his highly-anticipated Pakistan comeback, however, you still might have to wait for months to see him back in the national colours.

After months of speculations, it was reported on Sunday that contact was made between Amir’s manager and a member of the selection committee regarding the pacer’s comeback.

The 30-year-old called time on his international career in 2020 in protest over the treatment he had received from the then-management, led by Misbah ul Haq.

However, since the return of Najam Sethi at the helm of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it was speculated the left-arm pacer would take his retirement back.

Sethi, in his initial interactions with the media, had said: “Mohammad Amir can play international cricket for Pakistan if he takes his retirement back. I always took a strong stance against match-fixing. I believe no convicted player should be spared, but at the same time, a player should be allowed to resume international cricket once he has completed his years of penalty.”

In the recent contact, Amir has been advised to focus on his cricket and refrain from giving unnecessary statements in the media, which might create controversy.

The report further added that he will soon be asked to take his retirement back, so he needs to keep practicing and keep himself fit till then.

There was no timeline mentioned for his return, but with ICC Cricket World Cup in India is around the corner, he is expected to return around September.

At that time Pakistan will be hosting the Asia Cup, and it would be a fairy tale return for Amir to play in front of the home crowd.

His return not only boosts Pakistan’s chances in the upcoming World Cup, with a quality pace attack which already includes Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Zaman Khan.

Only time will tell if he would take his retirement back or not.

At this moment, there is no official statement available for PCB regarding the contact with Amir.
