The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation of Israel police’s raid into Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan on Monday and called it a violation of the right to freedom of religion of Pakestinian people.

In a press release, MOFA said that such attacks on worshippers in ramadan have become aregular occurrence in recent years and were an attack on the beliefs of the people of occupied Palestine.

MOFA also said that the attacks are not just wrong in and of themselves but also an an ‘affront’ to the sentiments of 1.5 billion Muslims across the world.

“By carrying out the illegal raids, Israel has backed out on its own recent commitment to respect the sanctity of Ramadan,” the statement said. It added that such attacks are against all humanitarian and human rights norms and laws.

“We reaffirm our unstinted support for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause, and renew our call for a viable, independent and contiguous Palestinian State, with pre-1967 borders, and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital being the only just, comprehensive and lasting solution of the Palestinian question,” the statement said.

Israeli police had forcibly removed worshippers from Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites, on March 26 as they gathered to break their fasts.
