Despite all the assurances from the Sui Southern Gas Supply Corporation (SSGC), several areas in Karachi did not have any gas supply to prepare suhoor on the first day of Ramazan.

Some neighborhoods had low gas pressure while people in North Nazimabad, Landhi, and Korangi woke up to no gas supply.

On Wednesday afternoon, SSGC announced that the company will ensure the supply of gas during the hours of suhoor and iftar for the convenience of all its customers during the holy month of Ramzan.

Gas reserves in the country are going down by eight to 10 percent every year, according to the statement. “A clear deficit exists in demand and supply of gas in the system,” the statement read.

The utility will continue the gas profiling to ensure gas pressure. According to the SSGC statement, gas load-shedding will be conducted from 8:00 in the morning to 2:30 pm.

Karachi has been experiencing severe gas load shedding since November.
