PDM, others would never support banning PTI, says Mohsin Dawar

No such proposal was discussed at the PM House meetings, NDM leader tells Aaj News

Chairman of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) Mohsin Dawar has dismissed reports about alleged plans to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying no such proposal was discussed at a Prime Minister House meeting.

Dawar also said he would oppose such a ban.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah suggested on Tuesday that legal proceedings could be initiated to declare PTI a banned outfit. There were reports that the government was planning to move against the party and the joint session of Parliament was being convened on Wednesday to pass a resolution to this effect.

Speaking on Aaj News show ‘Spot Light with Munizae Jahagir’, Dawar denied that such a proposal came under discussion in Tuesday’s meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“There is no such proposal,” said Dawar. “I cannot bring that complete discussion on record…but if this was disused in the meeting, I would have opposed it personally and some others would have done the same.”

He believes political battles should be fought on political grounds. “By imposing such restrictions, you cannot win the political battle.”

Dawar went on to add that the Imran Khan-led PTI “imposed” on the country with the help of the judiciary. “PTI was imposed in such a manner that their then political opponents were disqualified through the judiciary…. They were sent to jails. I still believe that whoever they did was wrong.”

“It doesn’t matter who they are, whether military or judiciary, they should be held accountable.”
