The authorities in Iran have closed a well-known gold bazaar because it advertised with a video showing a woman not wearing a headscarf.

The sales area for gold and jewellery of the luxury Almas Karim Khan shopping centre in the capital Tehran was therefore closed, the Iranian newspaper Hamshahri reported on Tuesday.

In the promotional clip, the camera follows a woman without the obligatory headscarf required under the strict Islamic dress code for women in Iran through the shopping halls.

After the protests in the autumn against the Islamic system of rule, more and more women have been demonstratively ignoring the dress code. In many cities, the authorities are now turning a blind eye, but at the same time, violations of the headscarf requirement are prosecuted through video surveillance.

Violations of the law in promotional videos, however, are new.

A few days ago, a group of young Iranian women caused a stir online with a dance video. In the clip, the five danced with loose clothing without headscarves in front of blocks of houses in a well-known neighbourhood in the capital Tehran. The video was distributed on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8.

According to unconfirmed reports on social media, the women were forced to make a public apology afterwards.

The uprisings in autumn plunged the political leadership into one of the most serious crises in decades. It was triggered by the death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in mid-September. She died in police custody after being arrested for allegedly not wearing her headscarf properly.
