Watch: Faheem, Islamabad United create PSL history
Islamabad United have created Pakistan Super League history thanks to a brilliant finish from all-rounder Faheem Ashraf at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing a mammoth 206-run target, the two-time PSL winners went home with a ball to spare courtesy of an unbeaten 51-run knock from Ashraf.
By doing so, they became the only team to score 18 runs in the final over to win a match in the PSL. No other franchise in the history of the league managed to achieve this feat.
Final over
Mohammad Ilyas of Multan Sultans, defending 18 runs, started the over with a wide. Faheem, who was trying to improvise, got an inside edge of a wide Yorker which went to the fence. The ball narrowly missed the stumps.
On the next delivery, Faheem reverse-scooped the wide Yorker over the third man for a maximum. David Miller made a rare fielding fumble on the third legal delivery of the over which gave United two runs and most importantly kept the left-hander on strike.
The 29-year-old then hit Ilyas straight down the ground for a boundary, with United needing a run from the remaining two deliveries. He then chipped the ball which cleared Kieron Pollard fielding 10 yards inside the ring at mid-off for a boundary to finish the game.
