Public Accounts Committee orders audit of Supreme Court expenses
A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee ordered an audit into the budget and expenses of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
The committee met under Noor Alam Khan where matters ranging from dollar smuggling to FBR hacking were discussed. However, the meeting came to the matter of the Supreme Court when the chairman reminded Ajmal Gondal, the auditor general, that the matter of the court’s scrutiny had already been delayed.
“We don’t even know how much salaries are being paid to the judges,” Noor Alam remakred.
The auditor general was told to submit a report by March 30 detailing the salaries, benefits and other facilities being provided to judges. A detail of plots given to judges has also been demanded.
The committee clarified that all of these details must be clarified regarding each judge of the court.
Noor Alam also remarked that the PAC has a right to know where the taxpayer’s money was being spent.
It was also revealed in the meeting that the Federal Board of Revenue is not letting the AGP access its data citing security concerns. The data is being offered in CDs only.
MNA Sheikh Rohail Asghar reminded that the FBR’s data had recently been hacked and leakd on the dark web.
To this, MNA Malik Mukhtar Ahmad replied that not only was the data hacked but also sold on the dark web and the whole fiasco had come about because the FBR was using pirated software.
