PTI’s Mohsin Leghari leads in Rajanpur’s NA-193 by-election: unofficial results
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Mohsin Leghari was leading with 57,101 votes in Rajanpur’s NA-193 by-election on Sunday, according to unofficial results. The counting of votes was still under way.
PML-N leader Ammar Owais Leghari was trailing behind with 31,697 votes, followed by Akhtar Hassan Gorchani of PPP. He bagged 13,209 votes.
The above mentioned results were received from 141 polling stations, out of a total 237.
The polling began at 8am and ended at 5pm. The seat fell vacant after PTI’s Sardar Jaffar Khan Leghari passed away on December 31 of last year.
There are 379,204 registered voters who will go to the polls in the constituency, of which 206,497 are male and 172,709 are female.
A total of 11 candidates are contesting the polls, however, the main competition is expected to be between PML-N’s Ammar Leghari and PTI’s Mohsin Leghari.
The caretaker government had asked the Election Commission to postpone the elections due to the security situation in the province. However, the ECP declined the request on Saturday and said that polls would go on as per schedule.
PML-N’s candidate Awais Leghari alleged that after a satisfactory start to the process, the district administration had suddenly stopped cooperating with the presiding officers.
He also said that the polling staff was not behaving appropriately with the voters.
Meanwhile, PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry alleged that police and other groups were targeting influential PTI supporters ahead of the by-polls.
He alleged that crops had been destroyed and people had been imprisoned in bogus cases.
However, he claimed that PTI would still win the election
