PTI workers begin offering arrests in Rawalpindi
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s workers began offering arrests as part of their jail bharo tehreek in Rawalpindi after prayers on Friday.
PTI leader and former provincial minister Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan is among those who have offered arrests.
The party will also be assisted in the effort by the Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen. The protest is being around Committee Chowk and RA Bazaar.
In a press conference on Thursday, PTI leader Amir Kayani had said that arrests would be offered by workers as well as former MNAs. Sheikh Rasheed had also said that he would offer arrest.
The police had reportedly decided that they would not make any arrests unless the protestors try to take the law into their own hands. Section 144 has so far not been imposed in the city.
The police has also decided that if any arrests are made, the workers will be shifted to other jails in the region as Adiala Jail is already filled beyond capacity.
The police has put 20 buses and nine prisoner vans on standby for the protest.
This is the third day of the jail bharo tehreek which has so far been held in Lahore and Peshawar.
Many major party leaders including Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad umar offered arrests on the first day of the protest in Lahore and have since been spread out in jails across the province.
The party has organised the protest against risign inflation and delay in elections to the provincial assemblies.
