Karachi police constable martyred fighting street robbers

A police constable was shot in the chest as he battled two street robbers in Karachi’s Korangi on Wednesday morning. Zaheer shot dead the robbers, but he succumbed to his wounds later.

A police patrol van was parked near Chakra Goth, Nasir Jump Road and two suspects riding a motorcycle were beckoned to stop, police officials said.

Instead of stopping, the accused fled into a side street. There was an exchange of fire between the police and the robbers in the street, during which checkpoint in charge Zaheer Ahmed was shot.

He was taken to Aga Khan University Hospital for medical treatment where he died of his wounds.

Two pistols, mobile phones and motorcycles were recovered from the possession of the criminals.

The bodies of the robbers were moved the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for medicolegal examination.

The funeral prayer for martyred constable, Zaheer Ahmed, was performed at the police headquarters in Garden South on Wednesday afternoon.

Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon, along with Additional IG Karachi, Additional Operations, DIG Security, Zonal DIGs and District SSP Karachi, senior police officers and the relatives, and friends of the martyr attended the funeral prayer.

The IGP paid tribute and expressed his condolences to the relatives of the martyr and appreciated his courage and bravery.

He assured the family of all possible support from the police department.
