Sukkur residents protested high petroleum prices by taking out a symbolic “funeral” of motorcycles on Thursday.

The carried the “lifeless” motorcycles – since they had run out of petrol and the owners could not refuel due to rising prices –- on bamboos and walked down the streets.

People of all ages participated in the “funeral.”

The protest was organized by Shehri Ittihad, a social organization.

Sheri Ittihad Chairman Ubaid-Ullah Bhutto told reporters motorcycle is commonly used by low-income and middle-income groups and its funeral symbolized their difficulty in paying high prices of petroleum products.

This is not the first time Sukkur residents have adopted a weird method to highlight a civic issue.

In 2021, women protested in the streets against inflation by carrying vegetables, fruits, bread, and other food items in their hands.
