The Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh, was prevented from tabling a resolution against inflation on Monday, leading to fights on the floor of the house.

“Everything is expensive and the public has no money to even buy poison to die,” Haleem Adil Sheikh said to the media later on. “We wanted to pass a resolution on inflation today in the assembly. The PPP will be an anti-public party if the resolution is not passed.”

Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said he would let it be discussed as a point of order later. Upon hearing this, PTI members stood up, raised placards against inflation and started chanting slogans. They surrounded the Speaker’s dais, prompting him to adjourn the house for 10 minutes.

“They [the PPP] have pledged everything to the IMF,” said Sheikh later to the media.

He argued that traders were protesting, factories had been shut down, the manufacturing of medicines was on hold, and even local toy makers had completely shut shop.

A Sindh Assembly session cost fifty thousand rupees, he added, but it achieved nothing.

When the session resumed, Speaker Durrani said he would not allow a resolution to be tabled if the Leader of the Opposition left after shouting.
