Lahore police officer booked for raping female complainant
A police officer in Lahore has been booked for raping a female complainant after luring her to a location with a promise of acting against the suspect she had named in an FIR.
Sub Inspector Ghulam Saqlain Gondal is the investigation officer for the women’s police station in Lahore’s Mustafabad.
In an FIR registered against him at Heir Bedian Police Station, the victim said that she had filed a case against a man two years ago, but no progress was made and the man was not arrested. Recently, she contacted investigation officer Saqlain, who asked her to come to a location in Lahore so that she could lead the police to the house of the man named in the original FIR she had lodged two years ago.
The woman said she met SI Saqlain at the designated place where the police officer gave her a beverage laced with drugs. He then took her to a hotel in the Qilla Gujjar Singh area where she was raped.
Police officials told reporters on Friday that they had registered an FIR against SI Saqlain and the issue will be investigated on merit.
Last week, a woman was raped in Islamabad’s F-9 park when she went there with a male friend. The rapists chased the friend away and raped her.
The F-9 park rape caused a nationwide outcry and a protest was held at the park. Police registered a case but no one has been arrested so far.
