The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday rejected Dania Shah’s bail plea in the video leak case involving her late husband Aamir Liaquat.

Dania has been accused of filming and leaking inappropriate videos of Aamir Liaquat Hussain – a well-known TV host and former minister. Her bail pleas were rejected by the lower judiciary.

In a petition before the Sindh High Court, Dania Shah claimed that she was unlawfully arrested in December 2022 as the legal requirements were not fulfilled at the time of her arrest from the Punjab city of Lodhran.

Liaqat Gabol, the lawyer of the petitioner, submitted that the trial court had issued a show cause notice to the investigating officer of FIA but no action was taken.

The lawyer said that the trial court should be directed to take action against the FIA.

The court, however, rejected the pleas saying that the challan, or police report, against the accused had been received.

The court handed down the ruling on Thursday a day after it reserved its verdict on Dania’s bail application on Wednesday.

Background

Liaquat married Dania in February 2022 but their relationship fell apart within months. Private videos and photographs of Aamir Liaquat surfaced on social media soon afterward.

Aamir Liauat was found dead in June 2022 at his Karachi apartment in mysterious circumstances, but not before announcing that he had forgiven Danis Shah for the leaks.

Liaquat’s children, a daughter and a son, from his first wife Bushra Iqbal filed cases against Dania Shah over the leaks, and she was arrested in December 2022.

Shortly after the arrest, Dania was produced before a Karachi court where she told the judge that she was “being trapped” to deprive her of her share in the property that Liaquat left at his death.
