Th Muttahid Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMP) has refuted claims that Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori could be replaced by another leader from the party in the next few days

Sources earlier told Aaj News that Tessori was going to leave the position.

However, MQMP Convenor Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi said in a statement that there was no truth in the reports. The party has complete confidence in Kamran Tessori, he said.

Tessori took oath as the governor on October 9 after the federal government approved one of the five names proposed by the MQMP.

Soon after assuming office, Tessori launched into an active campaign to unify various factions of the MQM. His efforts bore fruit and a unification agreement was announced on January 12.

Before the MQMP rebuttal, sources claimed that Tessori is vacating the position for another leader from the MQMP. Sources claim Mustafa Kamal, who was leading the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) faction before January 12, is a strong candidate for the Sindh governor slot.

Kamal served as Karachi’s mayor from 2005 to 2010 when the party was controlled by its founder Altaf Hussain.

He rebelled against Hussain in March 2016 — three months before the MQM founder lost control of the party following a fierce speech against state institutions.

After the unification of the MQM factions, Kamal was recently appointed as one of the senior deputy convenors of the party.

His PSP colleague Anees has been appointed a deputy convenor.
