Uzair Baloch acquitted in murder case
KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court has acquitted Uzair Baloch in a case of attempted murder from an explosion, citing a lack of evidence.
In 2012, an FIR for the attempted murder was registered at Kharadar Police station. The explosion left three people injured.
Uzair’s lawyer, Advocate Abid Zaman, said that there was no concrete evidence against his client. Baba Ladla and Zafar Baloch, the co-accused named in the case, have passed away.
Uzair Baloch has been acquitted in more than 26 cases so far.
He still has a long way to go; while he has been acquitted in 26 cases, he was charged in at least 59 cases (with some saying that the figure is even higher). This means that another 40 cases – ranging from narco-trafficking to premeditated murder – still hang over his head.
These legal proceedings are separate from the 12-year conviction awarded to him – in secret - by a military court on charges of spying for Iran in April 2020.
