The United States government strongly condemned the attack on a mosque in Peshawar and said that it is ready to provide support to Pakistan in its aftermath, a statement said on Tuesday.

“Terrorism is indefensible, and to target worshippers is unconscionable,” Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the US National Security Council said.

A mosque in Peshawar’s police lines was targeted on Monday, leaving 100 people dead, including 97 policemen.

Calling the attack ‘tragic’, the statement by the US NSC expressed grief over the loss of lives and condoled with the loved ones of the victims.

“The United States stands ready to provide support to Pakistan in its efforts to recover and rebuild,” the statement said.
