Fawad’s bail delayed again after prosecution no-show
An Islamabad court refused the Election Commission of Pakistan’s request to adjourn Fawad Chaudhry’s bail petition for three days on Tuesday.
Fawad Chaudhry is on a judicial remand after being booked for ‘threatening’ ECP officials. The prosecution did not make an appearance in today’s hearing.
The election commission asked for a copy of the bail petition and requested the court that the hearing be adjourned for three days so they could file a reply. They also maintained that they had completed their arguments regarding Fawad’s remand but not his bail.
In response, Fawad’s counsel Babar Awan asked the ECP’s counsel to submit their own reply instead of trying to represent the prosecution.
He also asked the court to hear the prosecution’s stance on the bail today (Tueday) and hear the ECP’s position on Wednesday. However, Judge Faizan Haider Gillani said that all arguments on Fawad’s bail would be heard on the same day.
Babar Awan quipped that the judge should ask the prosecution lest ‘platelete count drops.’ The judge then adjourned the hearing for one day.
Fawad Chaudhry was arrested from Lahore on Wednesday morning and brought to Islamabad after an FIR was registered against him for threatening the ECP secretary. He has been sent on physical remands twice and is currently in Adiala jail on a judicial remand.
PTi has maintained that he is being perceuted on ‘malafide intentions’. His wife, Hiba, who makes regular court appearance has said that permission is not being granted to meet his family.
