An eyewitness has said that the explosion in the Peshawar mosque took place just as the Imam had prepared to star the Zuhr congregation.

At least 27 people have been killed and over 140 have been injured in a suicide attack at the mosque in Peshawar’s police lines on Monday.

Officer Mohammad Imran, who was injured, told Aaj News that over 300 people were inside at the time of the explosion.

The explosion took place at around 1:40pm.

The attack comes after nearly a year of relative peace in Peshawar. The last one targeted an imambargah-mosque in the historic Qissa Khwani bazaar where a suicide bomber killed 62 people.
