Fawad Chaudhry applies for bail after being sent on 14-day judicial remand
Fawad Chaudhry filed a bail post-arrest petition in a district and sessions court in Islamabad, after being sent on a 14-day judicial remand on Friday morning.
The PTI leader has been sent to Adiala Jail for the remand. The police had requested the court for a seven-day physical remand.
Fawad Chaudhry told the court that as a spokesperson of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, his statements reflected the opinions of the party.
The police maintained that the two-day remand granted on Wednesday night had in effect been a one-day remand and more time was needed for a photogrammatic and voice matching test, which would have to be conducted in Lahore. The police also said that it was necesarry to conduct a search of the house. They added that the accused had already admitted to making the speech that the FIR was based on.
The court reserved judgement and announced it after a short delay. Rejecting the request for aphysical remand, the court sent him on a judicial remand for two weeks to Adiala jail.
The PTI leader was arrested from Lahore early on Lahore morning after a FIR was filed against him in islamabad’s Kohsar police station for ‘threatening’ an election commission official.
Bail petition
A post-arrest bail petition has also been filed by Fawad’s lawyers for an ‘unlawful arrest’. The petition also says that the PTI leader has been implicated in a case with ‘malafide intentions and ulterior motives to harass, pressurize and blackmail’ him.
Fawad was brought to F-8’s Kachehri before the court had even opened. A large number of PTI leaders and workers were also present at the venue.
