PML-N withdraws no-trust motion against Punjab Assembly speaker, deputy speaker
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has withdrawn no-confidence motions submitted against Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan and Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi.
Sources revealed that the decision was taken as the PML-N was facing problems in achieving the required number of lawmakers to send the speaker and deputy speaker packing.
Sources said that the PML-N put complete focus on the vote of confidence against Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.
Earlier in December, the PML-N and joint opposition had withdrawn its no-confidence motion against Elahi after Governor Balighur Rehman denotified him for not obtaining the vote of confidence from the assembly.
The no-trust motions were filed as part of the opposition’s strategy to counter the PTI’s move of dissolving the assembly.
However, the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended the governor’s notification and reinstated Elahi as the chief minister.
