Garbage truck carrying Indian gutka worth Rs40 million seized in Karachi
KARACHI: Customs officials seized on Friday a garbage truck carrying Indian Gutka worth Rs40 million that was smuggled into Pakistan.
The officials found the gutka safely concealed under the garbage on a garbage truck passing through the Nazimabad area of Karachi.
The sale, manufacture, storage and transport of gutka was banned by the Sindh Assembly in 2019 but it continues to be available at pan shops in kiosks across Karachi and other parts of the province.
Seizure
Customs authorities seized smuggled goods worth millions of rupees from secret compartments in a passenger bus coming to Karachi from Balochistan.
The seized goods included iPhones, smartphones, tablets, sewing machines, Iranian cooking oil and foreign cigarettes. Men and women’s clothing were also part of the seized goods.
Cases have been filed against individuals involved in both cases under the Customs Act.
ANF foil drug smuggling bid
The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) said Friday that it foiled smuggling bids in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and across the country.
According to the ANF spokesperson, a woman from Nowshehra was held and 4kg and 590 grams of weed were recovered from a flat located in Gulistan-i-Johar, Karachi.
In another case, it seized 48kg of hashish from plastic bags while conducting operation near Orakzai. Moreover, 30 narcotic pills and 250 grams of hashish were seized from three suspects near GT Road Rawalpindi.
Besides, the truck of a resident of Qilla Abdullah was impounded near Bilal Chaurangi Karachi and 48 kg of hashish were recovered from the vehicle.
Lastly, 9 kg and 774 grams of ice was recovered from plastic bags in an operation that was conducted near Chaman-Pak-Afghan border. Accused were booked in separate cases under the Anti-Narcotics Act.
