Video leak: Verdict on bail plea of Aamir Liaquat’s third wife tomorrow
A court in Karachi reserved on Thursday its verdict on the bail application of Dania Shah, the third wife of Aamir Liaquat, in a case pertaining to uploading obscene videos of the popular televangelist on social media prior to his death earlier this year. The court will announce its decision Friday.
A Karachi team of the FIA had arrested Dania from her home in Punjab’s Lodhran last week over a complaint filed with its cybercrime wing over a complaint filed by Liaquat’s daughter Dua Aamir. The case was registered under sections 20, 21 and 24 of the PECA, 2016 on October 10, 2022. The interim charge sheet was submitted before a court on November 1.
The video, which was not independently verified and claimed as fake by Liaquat while he was alive, showed the television celebrity in a state of undress after the consuming illegal substances, allegedly. The video was uploaded a few days after Dania filed for divorce in May. Liaquat died in June from what was initially believed to be a drug-related complication but the post-mortem was not conducted after the family challenged it. Soon after Liaquat’s death, Dania’s mother said that the divorce was not finalized.
During today’s hearing, Shah’s lawyer argued that the family had not filed any complaints when the videos were uploaded. He also questioned whether there was confirmation on who made the video, where was it shot and when, while denying the Dania’s involvement in the video going viral. He insisted that the family dispute between Aamir and Dania was being given a different colour.
The FIA counsel argued that the accused had not been remanded to their custody. To this, the defendant argued that a woman is remanded from morning to evening. The lawyer added that it would provide the court all the videos pertaining to the case.
The defendant accused the FIA of harassing the accused and taking her into custody without first notifying here. Following the arrest last week, Dania’s mother accused Liaquat’s ex-wife Bushra of being responsible for the raid on their Lodhran residence and Dania’s subsequent arrest.
The court will announce its verdict Friday.
