Murad Ali Shah orders crackdown on street criminals, ‘illegal foreigners’ in Sindh
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed law enforcers to amp up intelligence-based operation against street criminals and illegal foreigners in the province over the next 15 days.
He chaired a meeting in this regard in which the Shief Secretary Sohail Rajpoot, Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Azhar Waqar, Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon and other officers participated.
Shah said that a mechanism had been created to increase coordination between the Sindh Police and other intelligence agencies. “All the intelligence agencies should be in touch with each other on a daily basis,” he was quoted as telling participants of the meeting. He instructed the Rangers DG to increase patrolling.
The meeting decided that the prosecution of street criminals needed to improve while a concentrated effort was required to expel ‘foreigners’ who illegally entered Sindh. It was also decided to increase surveillance at the entry and exit points of cities in Sindh.
As a result of the meeting, the deployment of police and Rangers at street crime hotspots would be increased, with the authorities to share data regarding terrorists and street criminals with the media on a daily basis.
The provincial capital Karachi has been in the grips of street crime, with at least 100 people gunned down during botched attempts this year. Only last week saw several such incidents, including two involving students.
