Imran Khan urges military, judiciary to think about country’s sinking economy

Says the situation in Pakistan was never as bad as it is today

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan said on Monday that the military should think about the country’s sinking economy, adding that “if something happens to the country, the judiciary will also be responsible”.

“It is my duty to keep the nation aware of the economic situation. The situation in Pakistan was never as bad as it is today,” the PTI chief said addressing the party’s economic team.

He said that he was surprised by the silence of the country’s business community that they were not protesting against the decrease in exports.

The PTI chief said that if the business community did not raise its voice for early elections then they were responsible for pushing the country towards economic collapse.

“If the situation is not handled, it will worsen,” Imran Khan said and added that he was addressing not only the nation but also institutions. “Sinking economy will have an impact on all institutions.”

He said that the economy was an important aspect of national security. “The country’s exports are decreasing rapidly, and the investors have lost faith in the incumbent government due to its policies.”

He said that Pakistan had record exports during PTI-led government’s tenure. “In the last month of PTI government, there was 27% industrial growth which today is zero.”

The PTI chief said that the only solution to get out of the current situation was transparent elections. “Economic stability cannot come without political stability,” he added.

“I am asking everyone to raise their voice. If we do not raise our voice, we will all be responsible for it,” the former premier said.
