ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said the acquittal of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in the narcotics case proved that the previous government had carried out the “worst” political victimisation.

The case of narcotics against Sanaullah was the worst example of political victimisation, the premier said in a tweet, adding that despite facing political victimisation, the interior minister never uttered a word of complaint.

“He braved these heinous charges & repression with patience & remained steadfast. He is an inspiration for all political workers,” he posted in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, an anti-narcotics court acquitted Sanaullah from drug possession charges after three years.

The court made the ruling after the witnesses testified that they had not seen any drugs in Sanaullah’s possession.

The prime minister paid homage to the party leaders including Sanaullah and leaders of other political parties for boldly facing the “worst” political victimisation.

He said that of all PML-N leaders “targeted by Niazi’s regime, Rana Sanaullah’s case was worst example of political persecution with the most dangerous repercussions”.
