Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that a line of communication between his party and the federal government remained open with informal talks taking place.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Fawad Chaudhry said that he met the leadership of its Punjab ally, the PML-Q, including Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi.

In the meeting, Fawad said Moonis assured him that any delay in dissolving the Punjab Assembly was not an issue and the decision would be taken according to Imran Khan’s wishes.

He added that the party would held a consultation with lawmakers of the Punjab Assembly.

The PTI, which is in the opposition at the Centre, has been on a collision course with the PDM-led coalition government, with Imran Khan threatening to dissolve provincial assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unless the government announces early elections.

Pervaiz Elahi has repeatedly said in the last week that he owes his chief ministership in Punjab to Imran Khan and that he was prepared to dissolve the Punjab Assembly at a moment’s notice.

During his press talk, Fawad repeated the need for early elections including citing the state of the country’s precipitiously low foreign exchange reserves.

He also talked about reducing tensions with state institutions, while blaming ‘certain elements’ for increasing the bitterness.

He also called to attention human rights violation, while citing the cases of PTI Senator Azam Swati and Imran Khan’s aide Shahbaz Gill.
