Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab said on Monday that the National Highway Authority was also involved in the corruption in the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway M-6 project.

Wahab, who is also the spokesperson for the Sindh government, said in a press conference that a joint investigation team (JIT) comprising three officers has been formed to investigate the Sukkur-Hyderabad M-6 Matiari Motorway corruption. A case was registered in Matiari on November 17, with Matiari Deputy Commissioner Adnan Rashid arrested and Rs 420 million seized.

Wahab said that the investigators found embezzlement in Naushehro Feroze as well. On the instructions of the chief minister, another JIT was formed which submitted its report three days ago.

He said that the report verified the corruption allegations, following which the Naushehro Feroze deputy commissioner was removed from his post and he fled the country on November 18. A red warrant will be issued by Interpol for his arrest and legal action will be taken after bringing him back to Pakistan.

Tashfeen Alam, the Naushehro Feroze DC, is among several officials accused of involvement in suspicious transactions of over Rs2 billion meant for acquiring land for the M6 Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway project.

Murtaza Wahab alleged that deputy commissioner could not have done this alone, suggesting that officers at the National Highway Authority could be involved.

He added that the Sindh government is in touch with NHA to investgiate.
