Death from drinking poisonous substance did not occur on IBA campus

A young man who died after drinking a poisonous substance was neither an employee of the Institute of Business Administration nor did the incident took place at the University of Karachi campus.

Initially, it was reported that a 26-year-old man, identified as Omar Abbas, died after consuming a poisonous substance while another was unconscious. IBA had initially stated the two men were not employed at its KU campus.

Mobina Town police said that the misinformation spread due to the person who accompanied the two men to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. “Their neighbour Habib took the two men - first to a private hospital and then to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital - where he claimed that the two victims worked for IBA.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP0) East Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that the victim has been identified as Samar Abbas and the man who fell unconscious is Muzaffar Hussain.

The neighbour Habib, responsible for making false claims, has been taken into custody.

An investigation has begun with police trying to ascertain why Habib gave false information.

They said that the deceased Samar Abbas hails from southern Punjab.
