Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s anti-women remarks cause outrage
A recent clip of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s speech at a rally in Shikarpur has caused a storm on social media, with internet users condemning the politician for his comments against women.
“God forbid such people who say that even if he commits adultery with our mother, we will vote for him. Such young girls who say that I wish he [Imran] comes into my bedroom sometime. Are we developing such a society,” Fazl said at the party’s rally in Shikarpur last week.
Fazl, who is also the head of the Pakistan Democratic Movement, was speaking about the popularity of PTI chief Imran Khan among his female supporters. “Are we creating such a society? Such morals are being set,” he asked and alleged that the young generation was being distracted.
“Then they ask us to remain silent.”
A large number of youth and middle-class members are seen at PTI rallies with different banners and support messages for their leader. However, the opposition parties have in the past criticized the “actions and presence” of females at Imran Khan’s rallies.
Reacting to the clip, many internet users criticized the JUI-F leader.
“Condemn Fazlul Rahman’s sickening comments about women,” said economist Kaiser Bengali in a tweet.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman regularly makes caustic remarks about his PTI rival, who refers to the JUI-F chief as “diesel” at speeches. In return, the Fazl has routinely lablled Imran a “foreign agent”.
Former state minister for climate change Zartaj Gul of the PTI described Fazl as “pervert” who has a “decrepit filthy mindset!”
“His Western masters and benefactors must realise he’s at the moment making things up from his gutter mind, abusing females. Not a face of Islam, Fazlur Rehman is actually an embodiment of perversion,” she said.
News anchor Imran Riaz Khan was of the view that with such comments the JUI-F chief has “crossed the last limit of shamelessness” in politics.
One Twitter user opined that such comments should be condemned by everyone regardless of political affiliation.
But there were also some users who tried to prove Fazl’s comments by sharing old clips of PTI followers.
