It looks like Pakistan’s premier pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi may have avoided a major injury scare at least according to the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The pacer landed awkwardly while taking Harry Brook’s catch during Sunday’s ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final in Melbourne. Following that he was not able to continue and was forced to leave the game without completing his bowling spell.

According to the PCB, the scan conducted on Monday morning prior to the team’s departure for Pakistan, has confirmed there were no signs of an injury and the knee discomfort was likely “due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing”.

The scans results were shared between PCB’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro, and Australian knee specialist, Dr Peter D’Alessandro, and it was reassuring to know that there was no injury.

The left-arm fast bowler is feeling better and is in high spirits, said the team spokesperson.

The pacer, who is set to miss the upcoming Test series against England, will undergo rehabilitation and conditioning programme that has been designed to strengthen his knee at the National High Performance Centre few days after his return to Pakistan.

His return to international cricket will be subject to the fast bowler’s successful completion of the rehabilitation programme and following go-aheads by the medical staff.

It is worth mentioning here that several media outlets claimed that the pacer has suffered a serious knee injury which would kept him out of action for a lengthy spell.
