PTI protest march takes overnight break, to resume from Lalamusa
The second day of the second phase of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’ (PTI) protest march - or the Haqeeqi Azadi March - started the day in Gujrat city and ended at the GTS roundabout in the city.
PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi led the march, with both Qureshi and fellow leader Hammad Azhar addressing participants from behind the bulletproof dais - a precaution taken after several party leaders including Chairman Imran Khan were injured in a firing incident at Wazirabad last week. The protest was suspended after the incident and resumed a day earlier on Thursday.
The participants of the march were welcomed at the Ramtali Chowk in Gujrat by supporters of the PML-Q, a PTI ally that is in power in Punjab.
The second stopover was at the GTS Chowk, where a large number of PTI supporters were already present. It was here that Imran Khan addressed marchers through a video link, with his speech broadcast on screens set up in the area.
There was increased security in place to ensure there was no repeat of the incident of November 3 that resulted in at least one death.
The workers went home at the end of the day, with the march expected to resume tomorrow from Lalamusa.
