Security up a few notches at Imran’s Lahore residence amid new threat
LAHORE: Imran Khan’s personal security was increased on Friday in view of another threat to the PTI chief who survived an assassination bid last week.
Among the measures is the erection of a wall comprising cement blocks to provide cover while a heavy contingent of police - including those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - has been deployed at the entry and exit points. The number of security cameras around the residence has also increased.
The heightened measures follow PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry’s statement that the special branch was on high alert over fears of another attack targeting Imran.
Imran is currently convalescing in Lahore after getting wounded in the leg during firing at his container in Wazirabad.
Sources said that the PTI chief was meeting select individuals, with most of his time spent with his two sons who recently arrived in Pakistan from the UK where they live with their mother, Imran’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith.
He also discussed the progress of the protest march with party leaders on the phone, and also addressed participants through a video link.
Among the security measures is the setting up of a registration desk at the entrance to screen visitors. It includes a desk of women policemen to screen women visitors. Anyone without prior approval is not permitted to visit Imran’s residence.
