Post mortem reveals Arshad Sharif was tortured before death
New details from Arshad Sharif’s post mortem have revealed that Arshad Sharif was tortured before being shot to death from a close distance. The evidence of torture has put another question on an already mysterious death.
The report was prepared by an eight-member team from PIMS hospital in Islamabad. It said that there was ‘clear’ evidence of torture on the journalist’s body. The report also revealed that Sharif was shot twice, once in the head and once near the lungs. Both bullets were fired from close range.
The report also said that a piece of metal had been found in Sharif’s body and had been sent for forensic analysis. The object has now been sent for a forensic analysis which will send back a report in four days.
Sharif was killed in Nairobi, Kenya, on October 23. He had left Pakistan months earlier, citing threats to his life.
Journalist claims Arshad Sharif was tortured for hours
Meanwhile, TV show host Kamran Shahid claimed on Wednesday that Arshad Sharif was brutally tortured for two to three hours before being killed. He also showed photos of limbs, purportedly of the slain journalist’s body, as evidence to back up his claim.
Shahid claimed that Arshad Sharif’s nails had been pulled and his ribs broken by the torture. A wound was also visible above his wrist.
As social media erupted in indignation at the graphic images being broadcasted on television, Kamran Shahid posted clarified that he showed the images to ‘pressurise the government’. In a Tweet, he also said that he had deleted the video from social media.
He also demanded that the post mortem report should be released.
PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said on Thursday that Sharif’s mother had been chasing the post mortem report but it had not been provided to her. The journalist’s mother has already approached courts on the issue.
