PTI gives new date for resumption of long march

Shah Mehmood Qureshi says long march will resume on Thursday

Former foreign minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi notified that his party’s long march would now be delayed by two days and would resume on Thursday.

“The march will resume on Thursday at 2:00 pm instead of tomorrow,” the PTI leader said.

Qureshi’s statement comes after Imran Khan held a meeting with the party leaders and legal team at Zaman Park, where a detailed review was done over the delay in filing an FIR of the Wazirabad incident and the strategy of long march.

Sources said that the meeting was attended by Asad Umar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, Yasmeen Rashid, and other party leaders to hold a consultation.

In the discussion, the orders given by the Supreme Court to the Punjab police for registering the FIR were also discussed.

Sources said that the meeting also discussed the spots where Imran Khan would address the public.

Earlier, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry said that his party’s long march would be delayed by one day and would resume on Wednesday.

“The march will resume the day after tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:00 pm instead of tomorrow,” the PTI leader said in a tweet on Monday.

The march was halted on November 3 after Imran Khan sustained bullet injuries in what the party termed an assassination attempt.

He was rushed to the Shaukat Khanum hospital, a charitable infirmary set up by himself, in Lahore. At least two bullet fragments were present on Imran’s right thigh, and two in his lower leg, Dr Faisal had said in a briefing to the PM.

The PTI chief was discharged from the hospital on Sunday evening after recuperating from injury.

Before leaving Imran Khan addressed the media from the hospital and announced that his ‘Haqeeqi Azadi March’ will resume on Tuesday from the same spot in Wazirabad from where it was attacked.

Who will lead PTI’s long march?

Earlier in the day, Chaudhry told Aaj News that former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi would lead the march from Wazirabad and Imran Khan would join the march in Rawalpindi.

He said that Ali Zaidi would lead the caravans from Karachi and Pervez Khattak would lead the caravans from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that the PTI chief would reach Rawalpindi and would lead the march from there.

‘PTI to protest outside Governor House Lahore’

Meanwhile, Qureshi said that his party would hold a protest outside the Governor House Lahore at 7:00pm today (Monday).

“Azadi March will start from Wazirabad at 1:00pm tomorrow (Tuesday) with the ‘Fatiha’ for the martyred party worker,” the former foreign minister said addressing a press conference in Lahore, adding that the injured worker, Ahmed Chatta, would also participate in the long march.

Qureshi said that a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leader called the Wazirabad incident a drama. “Ask Moazzam’s wife and children whether the incident was a drama or not,” the PTI leader suggested.

He said that Imran Khan would join the long march in Rawalpindi.
