HAFIZABAD: The Hafizabad police arrested PML-N leader Rai Qamar, who gave death threats to PTI chief Imran Khan during a party gathering, on Sunday.

“Former vice chairman of PML-N in Hafizabad Rai Qamar has been arrested after a case was registered against him for giving serious threats to Imran,” Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said in a tweet.

He added that legal action would be taken against Qamar without any discrimination. “No one would be allowed to take the law into their hands.

The first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available with Aaj News, was registered on November 5 at the Hafizabad police station under Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, and sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR was registered at the request of PTI leader Imran Abbas Bhatti. This comes after a PML-N gathering in the Punjab district where Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Narcotics Control Attaullah Tarar and former federal minister Saira Afzal Tarar were also present.

“Suspects Attaullah Tarar, Saira Afzal, Muhammad Bakhsh Tarar, Rai Qamar along with the stage secretary and around 15/20 unidentified persons, who could be identified when they appear in front, who were present at the stage,” said the FIR.

“Attaullah, Saira, Tarar together told Qamar that ‘don’t forget that justifiable homicide talk’ when the latter came to them at the stage,” it said, alleging that since the mike in the hand of the prime suspect was on the message was heard by the complainant and other witnesses.

It added that the PML-N leader following the directives of the PML-N leaders used the above mentioned statement after inciting the people against Imran Khan. “And asked for killing [Imran] and said I will shot fire at him and if he survives I will again fire at him.”

Videos of Qamar’s speech were making rounds on social media. He spoke in Punjabi. Supporters of PTI have shared and demanded of authorities to arrest the person.

Qamar after giving threats had said it was his “personal opinion.”

He claimed that he was not grieved over the assassination attempt on Imran.

The former premier has accused his successor Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior military officer of the attack on him.

“We did not shoot at you. And when Shehbaz Sharif will give the order then we will fire at you and if you survived then tell [us].” The complaint alleged that the leadership was laughing, clapping, and praising Qamar after this statement.

It alleged that the suspect intentionally made such statements at a time when the whole country was protesting against the attempt of Imran’s life.

Earlier, Pervaiz took notice of the incident and ordered legal action against the PML-N leader. He had added that those who threaten to kill should be brought to justice.

He had also sought a report from the IG Police.
